Summer Camps!

Gorge MakerSpace is excited to offer another summer of fun programming for youth campers! Each program will give students the opportunity to gain hands on experience working with tools and learn new skills in STEM, crafting, woodworking, job training, and so much more – all in an inclusive and supportive environment with our amazing instructors and other campers.

  • Open Shop Fridays

    Every Friday throughout the summer, the shop is open for kids and teens who just want to tinker and experiment on their own projects with the help of supportive instructors.

  • Inventors Academy

    This camp is a four day deep dive into basic electronics and micro boards like the Arduino and Raspberry Pi. Learn how to design and program basic circuits to prototype your ideas.

  • Tool Up!

    Do you want to make a career out of working with your hands? Start your job training and learn basic construction skills in this program. We’ll spend our time visiting job sites, learning from contractors and tradespeople, and practicing our skills back at the shop.

  • Craft Camp: Sewing Mini Backpacks (FULL)

    Make this nifty mini backpack with reclaimed denim in just three mornings. This class is geared towards beginners and guides kids through all the steps to sew a pack they will use proudly. This is taught by Anne Gengler, who has been helping kids learn to sew at the MakerSpace for many years.

  • Kamp Kidsville

    Let’s build Kidsville! This is one of our longest running and most popular camps, where we construct a real town on site. Decide as a group which buildings our town needs, and learn some basic building skills while we construct, decorate, and cut the ribbon on our new town.

  • Kids Build II - On Wheels!

    We’re taking Kidsville to the streets, with tiny homes, bike trailers, go-karts, and more! Spend the week designing and building wacky rolling contraptions. All are welcome as we take our creations on the road on Friday, representing the MakerSpace in the July 4th Parade.

  • Woodworking Camp: Whimsical Boxes

    Make a little box for your treasures and keepsakes that looks like none other. These boxes are a blast to make and each one is a reflection of the campers’ creativity. Learn to safely use the bandsaw and other power tools. No woodworking experience required! Your finished product will look like it was made by a pro.

  • STEM Camp: LEGO Robotics

    Building LEGO robots is one of the most exciting ways to introduce kids to a myriad of STEM topics. In this camp we’ll learn to build vehicles that can be programmed to sense their environment. There will be lots of games and challenges, all done in a cooperative environment with other campers.

  • Machine Sewing: Cross Body Bag

    In three classes, you will create your own unique cross body bag.  Learn how to install a magnetic closure and select your own colorful fabrics.  Sewing machines and supplies are included.  Beginners are welcome.

  • Woodturning Camp: Magic Wands, Baseball Bats, & Spinning Tops

    There are so many cool things you can make on a wood lathe: medieval magic wands, gorgeous jewelry boxes with lids that spin like a top, even rings and bracelets. No experience required to attend camp! The things you create will make your friends think you’ve been turning for years. Limited to 5 kids.

  • STEM Camp: LEGO Robotics II

    Learning to write programs in Python can help you become a computer programmer with real-world skills. In this camp we’ll offer an introduction to line programming in Python, using LEGO robots as our application. This is a great class for kids who have limited experience coding and want to level up their skills.

  • Craft Camp: Magic Potions and Forbidden Brews (Session I)

    Join us for a colorful and fun-filled camp where we will become alchemists! We will explore the natural materials around us and create our own homemade colors to paint with and dye wool. Together, we will felt the wool as we connect with nature and with each other. Note: this is the same content and curriculum as Session II.

  • Make It to Market

    Take your woodworking or art skills to market! We’ll learn about design, budgeting, production, branding and sales of your cool projects, all with plenty of time for making and creativity. Includes a day of laser cutting and sticker making to advertise your brand. End the week with a sales booth at the HR Farmer’s Market!
